This week we’re loving…(14.01.13)
Another week, another ‘this week we’re loving’. Enjoy!
Erring dangerously close to the end of December’s double pay-check but don’t want to compromise on your style? Then worry no more and head to Covetique.com This clever website matches the owners of pre-loved designer clobber with bargain hunters and, with its reasonable prices and simple returns policy (if you don’t like your item then send it back for a fuss-free refund) it’s no wonder that this is fast becoming the website of choice for fashionistas on a budget. We love this Marc Jacobs jersey dress (£165) and striking red blazer (£320) by Preen.
Charmingly twee with its foot-tapping and highly catchy musical numbers including ‘Oh, Look at Me I’m Dancing’ and ‘It’s Easy to Sing’, it’s no wonder Bill Bankes-Jones’ production of 1950′s musical Salad Days is back at the Riverside Studios for a third, ten week run. Like many of the musical ‘greats’ the storyline is, in places, pretty ridiculous: the story follows the trials and tribulations of two, rather spoilt but equally endearing upper class graduates, Tim and Jane, who wrestle with the ‘challenges’ of finding suitable jobs and suitors for marriage as they acclimatise back in the real world, following their studies at Oxford University. Katie Moore is perfectly cast as Jane, with her boundless energy and Mary Poppins-like voice. Meanwhile, Kathryn Martin’s portrayal of seedy nightclub singer Asphynxia is wonderfully brash (think Mel Sykes in the infamous Boddington’s ad), while Matthew Hawksworth’s Midas-touched Tramp is both funny and perfectly performed. A fantastic cast and an all-round cracking production. Tickets are available online from the Riverside Studios, or at Lastminute.com
Next Monday (21st) is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. Not if you’re a sushi lover though, for high-street sushi chain YO! Sushi are giving away a free blue plate to all customers dining in any of their restaurants nationwide. To claim your free blue plate, simply say the secret password – ‘Cheery Nigiri’! What is more, in addition to your freebie, you can also take advantage of YO! Sushi’s famous Blue Mondays offer - where every Monday diners can enjoy dishes from the conveyor belt for just £2.40 each.
Really no reason for feeling blue this Monday then (get it?!).
Another top product which won’t break the bank balance this month is Sleek’s eyeshadow palette (£8.50) in I-Divine. The slim and sturdy palette contains 12 highly pigmented everyday colours including golds, bronzes, a striking green and a gun metal blue. The long-wearing and easily blendible shades are arguably as good as Mac’s far more expensive eyeshadows. Two words: get involved. Sleek make-up is available on Amazon and in larger Superdrugs.
